Why did Humble ISD Launch the HAC?

The Humble Independent School District (Humble ISD) partnered with Humble Online Access Center (HOAC) to provide students with technology resources and support needed for success. HOAC is a centralized, online resource center that offers electronic and print resources for educators in the district.

HOAC was created in 2006 to support a variety of needs for educators, including curriculum development, technology integration, and professional development. According to Humble ISD, “One of the goals of the HAC is to help teachers be successful in meeting the challenges of today’s digital world.”

The district has worked closely with HOAC to develop a variety of resources that are available online and can be accessed by students at any time. The resources include:

-A tutoring portal that connects educators with outside tutors to help students with homework, test preparation, and other educational tasks;

-An electronic bulletin board where teachers can post announcements and messages;

-A blog section that provides weekly updates on current events and important information for students;

-An online textbook library containing more than 1,000 titles that can be downloaded free of charge;

-An online test bank that offers practice tests; and -A selection of powerpoint presentations, handouts, and videos.

However, in certain circumstances, such as when a student is away from home or unable to sign up for an account due to illness, Humble ISD may allow a parent or guardian to sign up a student for online access without the child’s permission.
